J.D. McIntosh, 7th New Jersey

J.D. McIntosh, 7th New Jersey. Date Created/Published: between 1860 and 1870. Pictures of the Civil War provided by LOC. Original medium: 1 negative : glass, wet collodion.

I Have acquired what appears to be an early American Civil war Knife, The handle Is Of bone, while the tang being nickel silver ,has oak leaf design on either side at the hilt.
The end of the word Liberty, on the left, & the start of a word on the right, (AN) THE base of the hilt contains a sword that appears to be going through a horse's head with a set of scales attached to it's point, under that there are seven stars An Eagle holding an Olive branch in one claw & 3 arrows in the other, below is a shield with what looks like olive branches either side. The mid of the bone handle has a small round nickle silver engraving plate with no engraving. On the blade butt in oval punching is S.W.WRAGG No 40 FURNACE HILL SHEFIELD
I wonder if you may be able to enlighten me as to if it may be a genuine civil war knife, and any information you may have on such a knife. I am a custom knife maker myself, and am very interested in the history of knives, If you need more information, I could send a photo by "E' mail.
